I rise and head down to my village, sip a coffee, chat with the staff in the local shops and gossip with neighbours. This is an important daily ritual for me because being a large scale Irish abstract Artist can be isolating. Then it’s back to my studio for some serious work.
Every Artist had their own routine, some like chaos, loud music etc. Personally I do my best work in silence. When faced each morning with a blank canvas, I take out a folder crammed with doodles and drawings. It is my very own reservoir of ideas and inspirations that prompts me to paint. I will choose the most compelling sketch that demands to be translated into a complete painting. I love the anticipation that composing and painting each canvas brings.
I work till I tire at lunchtime, then it’s a quick walk by the sea to rejuvenate body and soul. I return to the studio for another work session that usually lasts until the light begins to fade. My extended family live nearby so there is always an invitation to dinner, or an evening drink to complete the day.
