My return to large scale artworks

When studying for my Masters in business I had a revelation that I really should be painting. I was determined to finish my qualification and some-how commence my art career at the same time. I contented myself with dashing off water colours between lectures in a tiny postcard sized notebook. “One day these sketches will become big bold paintings that take up whole walls” I thought to myself.

After my graduation I foolishly took an unsuitable job that did not last long. My severance pay however gifted me enough money to take a shot at my dream of painting. For several months I painted furiously; my paintings growing in competency, complexity and size, until the work became too big to fit through my studio door and I had no room left to stand let alone paint.

I then submitted a catalogue of my work to a Curator who purchased art on behalf of the Irish Government. They bought my largest, most ambitious piece and thus validated my decision to paint big Irish abstract artwork. Although my initial paintings were big and bold, over time, I reduced the size of my work to fit the walls around me. After several years of silence I listened to my inner voice and re-kindled my passion to create large scale abstract Irish artwork.

Now that my desire to paint on a bigger scale has re-emerged, this time I will heed the call of my passions.
